Hello again from Portugal,

It has been an interesting, exciting and sometimes challenging time here, sometimes – often - it’s been simply wonderful!  One of the most wonderful things I’ve experienced by moving from Hong Kong to Lisbon, Portugal is my back yard.  What about it?…I HAVE ONE NOW! Living the city life had it’s advantages but the discoveries I’ve made by changing my lifestyle, by embracing the adventure and not succumbing to my fear of doing something new…has been remarkable.  

In my previous blog, I had asked a few questions about what your challenges/opportunities are and what you are prepared to do about this.  I would like to thank all of you who have answered and I will endeavor to address some of the topics raised in this and future blogs.

One of the issues that came up was lack of confidence.

We often, most of us, face this situation.  Why?  What causes this?  Our perceived failures?  Our self-judgement?  Criticisms of others that we buy into?  The fact that we don’t correspond to/fit into the norm (we are either too fat or too thin, too tall or too short, too intelligent/ not intelligent enough etc etc… )  Yet, if we were to understand our make-up, our blueprint and accept ourselves warts and all, none of us would feel a lack of self-confidence, because we would be enough…more than enough, wouldn’t we?

So what is holding us back?

I have found by working with clients (and myself too) that the worst culprit is fear.  When we operate from fear we are not clear in who we are.  We buy into an illusion.  The more we do this, the more we believe the illusion (fear) and it leads to a downward spiral.

How can we get out of this rut?  One way is connecting to nature, for instance by walking barefoot on grass or going for a swim in a river or lake or sea or walking in a park or forest; and before we do that we can set an intent of letting go of the illusion, of fear and breathe deeply.  Now that I have a garden, I spend time there daily and it has made a huge difference.  WHY?  Because nature is REAL, so by connecting to what is real, we can become real, which takes us out of the illusion, the smoke screen, the fear.  Try it!  The shift may be subtle at first, however the more you do it, the more this becomes a new habit the bigger the shift.


My challenge for you is to do it for the next 30 days and see what happens.  You will see a BIG difference in how you see life and by shifting that perspective, you’ll begin going beyond that fear that lurks around the corner and begin living life again!
